Michelle is a\npost-doctoral researcher in the Department of Social Sciences. Michelle\u2019s\nresearch focuses on the role of children within military environments, in both\nnational and international contexts. In particular, Michelle has conducted\nresearch around the protection of children in theatres of armed conflict and\nsexual violence in the military. In\n2018, Michelle was awarded the Political Studies Association\u2019s inaugural Shirin\nM Rai Prize for best PhD thesis in International Relations and a Winston\nChurchill Fellowship for her work \u2018Encountering Children on the Battlefield\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since joining\nEdge Hill, Michelle has worked on a number of projects aimed at preventing the\nabuse of children in sport and working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse.\nHer current work involves working with survivors of sexual abuse to develop\nsurvivor-led training and education, a sexual violence prevalence study, and an\nexploration of sporting opportunities available to Service (Military) children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michelle also serves as an academic expert on the\nFootball Association\u2019s Survivors Support and Safeguarding Advisory Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
