Jayne Molyneux, Director of Children and Young People for Sport England, was one of the high profile speakers at the launch of the new Centre for Child Protection and Safeguarding in Sport.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

A new research centre on safeguarding in sport has generated hope for real change.<\/p>\n

Edge Hill University\u2019s new Centre for Child Protection and Safeguarding in Sport (CPSS)<\/a> will focus on the prevention of abuse, exploitation and maltreatment in sport and will promote the positive welfare of those who take part in sport; sitting at the forefront of national and international research and education on a range of
\nsafeguarding and welfare issues in sport.<\/p>\n

At the inaugural conference Karen Leach, who hoped to swim in the Olympics for Ireland, talked about the sexual, emotional, physical and mental abuse she was subjected to by her coach from the age of 10.<\/p>\n

In an emotional speech, Karen said: \u201cYou will never know the pain, until it comes to your door. We are the reminder, we\u2019re here to tell the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s too late for my life; others who have been abused have contacted me to say as long as I keep speaking out, organisations and governments will never be able to forget about us, or what has happened to us.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
