Information for Mentors
Thank you for supporting our trainee in their second year of study on the BA(Hons) Primary Education with QTS (Part Time).
During this term, the trainees are going to be taking part in an Intensive Training and Practice (ITaPs ) focusing on variation in Mathematics. Please see https://sites.edgehill.ac.uk/mentorspace/itap/ for more information.
In preparation for this ITaP, we are sharing a mentor booklet which outlines in detail the programme and tasks to help support the trainees with this focus.
Within the booklet, we have proposed a number of activities that would enable the trainees to explore what variation in mathematics looks like in your school.
We understand our trainees have a number of commitments and how busy mentors and schools are, therefore, we have tried to incorporate flexibility for the completion of these across the four indicated weeks. We hope by the beginning of July, trainees will have completed their tasks. This will support the trainee to reflect upon their experiences back in university, improve their confidence and understanding of utilising strategies for variation in Mathematics in practice.
The Mentor briefing notes are on the Mentor Space Primary (5-11) Undergraduate Part Time ITaP – Mentor Space (edgehill.ac.uk), along with the Mentor and Trainee booklets.
There is a short online briefing on Friday 24th May at 12.30 on Teams where colleagues will be discussing this in more detail and will answer any questions that you may have.

Thank you for supporting our trainee in the facilitation of this ITaP. We look forward to seeing their progress and reflections over the course of the summer.
If you would be interested in one of our Lead mentors visiting your trainee during this period to offer an opportunity to discuss the trainee’s development in this area of their training, please do contact me via email or come along to the briefing.
