Breaking Cycles, Building Futures: The For Baby’s Sake Trust Approach to Early Intervention and Trauma-Informed Support

The For Baby’s Sake Trust is a UK charity pioneering whole-family, trauma-informed approaches to break the cycle of domestic abuse, starting during pregnancy, to enable parents to give their babies the best start in life. Our work is rooted in the belief that with the right support at the right time, every parent can provide their baby with the nurturing, safe start they deserve.

In this 30-minute presentation, we will introduce The For Baby’s Sake Trust and outline our dual focus on policy advocacy and direct delivery of our evidence-based programme. We will explore how we support families across the UK by working simultaneously with both parents, addressing trauma, building emotional safety, and strengthening parenting capacity from pregnancy through early childhood.

Drawing on examples from our practice and partnerships with local authorities and health systems, we will demonstrate how education – about trauma, relationships, and self – transforms life chances not only for babies and children, but for parents and wider communities. We will also highlight our engagement in policy development, influencing systemic change to create environments where families can thrive.

The presentation will conclude by reflecting on the key lessons for professionals and policymakers seeking to intervene earlier, build resilience, and break intergenerational cycles of harm.

A 10-minute Q&A will follow, offering attendees the opportunity to explore how trauma-informed, whole-family work can fit within their own practice and research contexts.
