In this talk, Simon O\u2019Brien, the Walking and Cycling Commissioner for Liverpool City Region, will explain what a Mini-Holland is and how it can contribute to a reduction of carbon emissions. But Mini-Hollands offer so much more than just a reduction in carbon emissions. They imagine a different future where streets belong to people rather than being given up for cars to be driven and stored on. They imagine safe spaces for children to play and for us all to be able to be more active. Simon O\u2019Brien will touch on other places where Mini-Hollands have already been shown to significantly improve neighbourhoods, such as Waltham Forest, and why the Combined Authority believes that establishing one Mini-Holland is central to the Region\u2019s strategy to convince citizens to shift towards active travel across Merseyside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will also screen a short film made by Edge Hill University students that supported the funding bid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.edgehill.ac.uk\/sustainnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/280\/2023\/04\/SimonOBrien.jpg\" alt=\"Simon O'Brien 2nd from the left standing with 5 members of Edge Hill staff.\" class=\"wp-image-13061\" width=\"448\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.edgehill.ac.uk\/sustainnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/280\/2023\/04\/SimonOBrien.jpg 756w, https:\/\/sites.edgehill.ac.uk\/sustainnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/280\/2023\/04\/SimonOBrien-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Biography<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simon O&#8217;Brien is the Cycling and Walking Commissioner of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as well being a BAFTA- and multi-award-winning TV presenter and actor. He&#8217;s starred in&nbsp;<em>Brookside<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Grange Hill&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>Coronation Street<\/em>.&nbsp; Currently, he is working on a new series of <em>The Great House Giveaway<\/em> for Channel 4.
