This is one of our newest research themes, and we&#8217;re actively looking to grow it \u2014 read on to see where it&#8217;s heading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Applying multimodal AI to real-world challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leading and contributing to funded research in multimodal artificial intelligence, spanning big data analytics, natural language processing, image processing, software engineering, computational linguistics and healthcare informatics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This research is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>leading work on <a href=\"https:\/\/alfie-project.eu\/\">ALFIE<\/a> (<a>Horizon Europe, \u20ac3.5M)<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>contributing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossminer.org\/\">CROSSMINER<\/a> (Horizon Europe, \u20ac4.5M) and <a href=\"https:\/\/iuk.ktn-uk.org\/projects\/cyberasap\/cybersignature\/\">CyberSignature<\/a> (UKRI, \u00a392K)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">applying AI for social good, including Home Office-funded research <a href=\"https:\/\/research.edgehill.ac.uk\/en\/projects\/using-artificial-intelligence-to-identify-perpetrators-of-technol\">identifying perpetrators of technology-facilitated domestic abuse<\/a> (\u00a3115K), and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.edgehill.ac.uk\/en\/projects\/using-behavioural-data-to-understanding-community-well-being-an-a\">Nuffield Foundation \/ British Academy funded work<\/a> using behavioural data to understand community wellbeing (\u00a3120K)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"_msocom_1\"><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understanding climate conversations with AI<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Early-stage work is testing how far large language models can be trusted to capture semantic knowledge \u2014 <a>a first step towards AI tools that can reliably analyse how climate change is represented and discussed in the media,<\/a>&nbsp;using natural language processing, semantic knowledge graphs and machine learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This research is<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>testing the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.edgehill.ac.uk\/en\/publications\/deterministic-and-trustworthy-llm-driven-semantic-knowledge-graph\/\">trustworthiness of large language models<\/a> for building semantic knowledge graphs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>laying the groundwork for a data-driven lens on climate communication, linking directly to the Communication and Engagement theme<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a id=\"_msocom_1\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Growing this theme<\/strong> Data is a young but fast-growing theme for SustainNET.
