reflects on the lessons&nbsp;to be learned&nbsp;in&nbsp;the greatest&nbsp;environmental&nbsp;challenge ahead&nbsp;\u2013 climate change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When&nbsp;expeditions to&nbsp;Antarctica in the 1980s&nbsp;confirmed that chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), found in&nbsp;household appliances and personal hygiene products, had caused a hole in the ozone layer,&nbsp;the news spurred action from leaders&nbsp;around the world.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Montreal Protocol&nbsp;was designed to kickstart&nbsp;the worldwide phaseout of CFCs and&nbsp;to this day remains the only United Nations agreement to be signed by every country in the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.edgehill.ac.uk\/sustainnet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/280\/2020\/05\/ChrisDent.jpg\" alt=\"Chris Dent\" class=\"wp-image-412\" width=\"311\" height=\"259\"
