On 22 August 2022, members of the Thai Coast project team, led by Associate Professor Dr. Kanchana Nakhapakorn of Mahidol University, met Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata at Sri Ayudhya Room, the Royal Thai Embassy, London, to introduce and update the progress of cooperation projects between Thailand and the UK on climate change issues through research collaboration. Research on the “Thai Coast: Coastal Vulnerability, Resilience and Adaptation in Thailand” has focused on assessing the impacts of current and potential future climate change on the ecosystems and communities of the Thai coastline in Krabi and Nakhon Si Thammarat Provinces. In addition to striking the balance between economic development in Thailand and thoughtful care of environment, these research collaboration projects represent Thailand’s contribution to the joint international efforts in mitigating the global warming and various climate change issues.
Ambassador Suvanajata welcomed the team and was pleased to learn more about ongoing Thailand-UK collaborative research on climate change and its impact. He recognized that, in the future Thailand’s Government Agencies will be more and more concerned with managing environmental and societal impacts of climate change. He highlighted the importance of the Thai Coast project research for improving the resilience of coastal communities not just in Thailand but across SE Asia.
