The Aughton & Ormskirk u3a is a self-help, member-run organisation for people no longer in full-time employment. Members share their knowledge, skills & experience in a variety of ways  through meetings, talks, social events and special interest groups  – all in a friendly, relaxed environment.

Our branch started in 2003 and is one of the largest branches in the UK.  Our u3a has gone from strength to strength and has over 1500 members!  In 2008 we received a Queen’s Award  for Voluntary Service.

We provide opportunities for a wide variety of life-enriching activities in a friendly and informal manner. While a principal focus is informal ‘life-long learning’, hobbies, cultural and physical activities also feature strongly.

We aim to be more than a social club and have over 80 friendly groups catering for all tastes.  These range from more leisurely pursuits such as scrabble, bird-watching or bridge to more active groups such as cycling, walking or zumba. Some groups have even organised holidays or occasional outings.

No qualifications are required to join the u3a. Activities depend on our members volunteering to organise and participate in the meetings, activities and events.
