Vampire fangs, dripping with blood.

EHU Nineteen Research Centre are pleased to join forces with Dacre StokerBram Stoker’s great grand-nephewand Dr Chris McAuley to announce a creative competition for Edge Hill University students.

From Victorian villain to modern-day boyfriend material, and from social outcasts to avengers of injustice, the vampire has taken many forms. You are invited to submit your bite-sized creative interpretations of the vampire in a new competition to win exciting prizes. We are particularly looking for innovative entries which force us to rethink traditional vampire genres or which use the vampire to explore important contemporary issues.

Eligible entry formats:

  • Prose (500 words max)
  • Poetry (40 lines max)
  • Comic (4 pages max)
  • Artwork (traditional media or digital media)
  • Photography (1 image)
  • Short film (5 mins max)
  • Theatre Performance (5 mins max)
  • Dance (5 mins max)

First Prize: £100 voucher + collectors edition of Dracula + signed edition of Dracul (2018) by Dacre Stoker and J. D. Barker. Multiple runner up prizes.

Entries will be judged by an interdisciplinary panel led by Dr Madeline Potter (BAVS/BARS Nineteenth Century Matters Fellow) and Dr Laura Eastlake (Senior Lecturer in English Literature). Entries can be by an individual or a group. One prize per winning entry.
