The Lancashire Climate Action Network (LancsCAN) are excited to announce the planning of a groundbreaking conference for 16-19 year olds on Wednesday 30th October 2024, 9:45am – 2:30pm, at Blackpool Sixth Form College.
The event will be:
- Engaging young people in tackling the causes of climate change and move to a more sustainable economy and society
- Informing young people of the growing wealth of opportunities for study and careers linked to sustainability
- Boosting young people’s knowledge and confidence about how they can act as agents of change in their communities
- Generating ideas for further involvement and action, including the opportunity for delegates to lead a climate-related project in their community
The conference programme has been developed by young people, sustainability and education professionals and academics. There will be a lively and vibrant mix of expert inputs, hands-on sessions and round-table discussions, workshops, performances and a ‘marketplace’ for study, career and volunteering opportunities.
We will also have a programme of networking and CPD for any staff attending.
This initial event will be limited to 100 young people. We would like to invite school sixth forms, post-16 colleges and youth groups across Lancashire (including Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen) to consider bringing a small group of young people to the event (maximum 4).
If you are interested in bringing a group of young people to the conference, please complete this short form www.surveymonkey.com/r/LYCC24 by Friday 12th July 2024. We will then be in touch with further information.
