Who We Are

We are an action-based climate group centred around youth involvement in sustainability and environmental awareness. Our goal is to connect youth and communities in the Lancashire area.

Aims & Objectives

Aim: To empower young people in engaging with climate action within the community and on a broader scale.

Objectives:

  • Climate Action: We aim to tackle environmental challenges by launching our own projects, supporting existing initiatives, and expanding our understanding of environmental issues.
  • Youth Empowerment: We aim to empower youth by enhancing their representation in environmental issues and providing new opportunities.
  • Community Engagement: We aim to engage local groups and young people across Lancashire while supporting the environment through initiatives and events.

Joshua – Research Coordinator

Hello, my name is Joshua, and I am from Fleetwood. I love volunteering and helping other people and learning new things. In the past I have helped run three conferences involving the environment at the Blackpool Sixth Form. The first two for the Fylde Coast and the third one for the whole of Lancashire which was based around the environment within the areas.

My role within LancsCAN Youth is the research coordinator. This role involves researching environmental issues, anything that needs greater clarity or an issue that we do not know enough about. I will also be helping to gain new members and how we can get them to join and engage with the group.

What I am looking forward to is helping others gain a greater understanding of how the environment works. Getting as many people as possible involved in our group as I would like to see everyone who wants to be involved given a greater chance. But also learning and strengthening new skills along this journey so I can improve my own skill set.

Maya – Chairperson

Hi! I’m Maya, I’m 21 years old, and I’m from Blackpool. I have recently graduated from the University of Warwick with a BASc (Hons) in Global Sustainable Development. While I’m passionate about all aspects of sustainability, I’m particularly interested in community-level climate and environmental action, and I can’t wait to see what we achieve as a group.

Like some of the other Committee members, I am a former Youth Eco-activist in Residence. Between 2021-2022 I was the Student Chairperson of Blackpool Sixth Form’s Eco Action Group, which taught me a lot about how to enact positive change as part of a team, including the organisation of the first Fylde Youth Climate Conference. I was also fortunate to be on the steering group for the Lancashire Youth Climate Conference, and continued to stay connected to Lancashire-based climate action during my time at university.

Within LancsCAN Youth I am the Chairperson, which means that I organise and lead our meetings. I also manage our planned events and projects, which we all work on together as a group. My hope for this group is that it empowers young adults to take action as part of a collective to benefit not only ourselves, but also the environment and community around us.

Vlad – Treasurer

Hi! My name is Vlad, and I’m from St Annes. My main areas of passion in this field are preservation, policy, and youth empowerment. I’m a former Youth Eco-activist in Residence which gave me the opportunity to take part in the most recent Lancashire Youth Climate Conference. I was also a member of the Eco Group at Blackpool Sixth Form, which gave me my first real opportunity to explore environmental issues and gain practical experience.

In LancsCAN Youth, I am the Treasurer, so my responsibilities are managing our organisation’s finances in a way to execute our projects and goals. I hope our group can make a meaningful contribution to environmental action across Lancashire and empower young people by helping them gain new skills, knowledge, and connections.
