Eco Barnoldswick

Eco Barnoldswick began in October 2021 with a small group of concerned residents, with the aim of wanting to work together to make the town of Barnoldswick in Pendle a community that cares for its environment. We wanted to especially address the following issues and climate action related goals: cleaner air, cleaner streets, less waste and lower energy homes and businesses.

We sought to do this by: learning together, running workshops, organising various activities and events as well as working with local businesses to reduce their ecological footprint. The Eco Barnoldswick group has a website, email ([email protected]) and also a Facebook group where it offers ideas, information and encourages involvement.

The first Eco Barnoldswick meeting was held in November 2021 and various events in the community followed, looking at reducing plastic waste and running fun activities, to educate young people about keeping beaches clean and caring for our oceans at ‘Barlick Beach’.

We are linked with local company Silentnight who supported the planting of 700 trees and bushes, within the school grounds, with pupils at West Craven High School. Eco Barnoldswick have also worked hard to develop a wildlife garden area near the town’s main bus stops and have encouraged limiting mowing generally, to encourage wildlife. We meet regularly, have speakers etc. and now has a constitution and hopes to apply for funding to enable further progression of its aims.
