Friends of Worden Park
The Friends of Worden Park are involved in the upkeep and enjoyment of the park. They complete a variety of tasks including planting, conservation and litter picking. They are also involved in a number of other activities including bat, bird and butterfly surveys.
Each volunteer bring different skills, knowledge, interests and come from different backgrounds and so it is a good chance to meet new friends who share a passion for the park and nature.
The Friends meet monthly on a Saturday between 10am to 12 noon. The park is a 60 hectares in size with a mixture of grassland, woodland, ponds, brook and buildings in the middle. It is used for a variety of activities through the year including football, junior park run, Leyland Festival, Bonfire night, music festivals, and the model railway. The park is a special place, popular not only for the town but the wider county and beyond. So it is important for the park to be conserved not only for the intrinsic value but also a place for exercise, exploring, engagement and enjoying nature.
The Friends group is a free group that anyone can join. The group works with other organisations and recently have been involved in projects including wood chipping a woodland pathway, used Green Partnership funding for planting marginals at a new pond, Replanting a rockery and area near the Hall. Also the group was consulted on the recent work plan for the improvement plan and have also entered the NW in Bloom to show off the highlights of the park.
