Nick is a part-time PhD Candidate at Edge Hill University and a Lecturer in the Sociology of Sport at Loughborough College. Nick’s research, which is supervised by Dr Mike Hartill and Dr Melanie Lang, aims to map the field of safeguarding in sport. Utilising the theoretical lens of Pierre Bourdieu, in conjunction with in-depth interviews with Lead Safeguarding Officers in sport, his research explores how a central stakeholder for safeguarding in sport contributes to the wider context of safeguarding children in the UK.

Nick has also worked with Dr Hartill and Dr Lang as a research assistant in their CPSU-funded research into sport stakeholders’ perceptions of child protection in Rugby League and was a youth panel member for the Sports Respects Your Rights Campaign.

In Nick’s role at Loughborough College, he delivers at levels 4, 5 and 6 and delivers lectures in the area of athlete welfare and safeguarding. He also supervises dissertation students in a range of contemporary topics within this field.
