Mike is Professor of Sociology of Sport in the Department of History, Geography and Social Sciences and director of CPSS. He has conducted research into child sexual exploitation in sport since joining Edge Hill, working on a number of national and international projects aimed at preventing abuse of children in sport.

Melanie is Professor of Child Protection and Children’s Rights in Sport in the Department of History, Geography and Social Sciences and director of CPSS. Her work is focused on children’s rights in sport, especially their right to a ‘voice’, and the policy and practice of safeguarding children from violence and abuse in sport.

Jimmy O’Gorman is a senior lecturer in Sports Development, Management and Coaching and teaches on the BA (Hons) Sports Development, Management and Coaching, and the MSc Sport, Physical Activity and Mental Health programmes. His research focuses on the welfare and well-being of sports workers, sports welfare coach education, and involving children in sports policy development and research.

Bettina is Professor of Diversity Studies in Sport at the Institute of Sociology & Gender Studies. Her work centres on the prevention of sexualised and interpersonal violence in sport.

Jenny is Associate Professor in Education in the College of Arts, Law and Education at the University of Tasmania. Her research focuses on abuse, violence and prevention measures in sport, and trauma-informed practices and their application to sports contexts.

Laura is a senior researcher at the Institute of Educational Research at Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania. Her academic work focuses on power and interaction in the coaching process, coaches’ pedagogical actions and identity construction, coach and athlete welfare, and children’s rights in sport.

Joanne is a senior lecturer in physical education and school sport. Her work focuses on inclusive pedagogies for PE teachers and educators and the role of technology in this, and pupil wellbeing in PE and school sport.

Saffron is a PhD candidate investigating the impact of workforce regulation on harm prevention in sport. Her PhD research, which is funded by CIMSPA (the lead organisation for sport and physical  activity workforce, is supervised by Prof Mel Lang, Dr Eleanor Peters (Criminology) and Dr Neil King (sports management).

Mark’s research focuses on the culture of grass-roots football clubs via an ethnographic study that includes observation of coaches and interviews with coaches and youth players. The project aims to explore how the coaching environment meets the expectations of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
