Professor Melanie Lang has been hired by globally renowned consultants ECorys to serve as an expert consultant on a project to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Sport England-funded Sport Welfare Officer Network – a new network of specialist officers supporting National Governing Bodies of sport and their local clubs to promote good practice and safer sport for all.

Period: September 2024 – May 2027

The Sport Welfare Officer Network was developed in late 2023 in collaboration with numerous partners including national governing bodies of sport, Active Partnerships, the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit, and the Ann Craft Trust. It aims to support national and local sports clubs in ensuring the welfare of their members, both children and adults.

An evaluation study is running alongside the SWON to track its progress and measure the effectiveness of the Club Welfare Officers in feeling supported.
