Climate breakdown is humanities primary challenge and we are now in the second year of the climate decade. We urgently need to contain global heating. To do that we need to halve global emissions by 2030. We all need to escalate our actions to get emissions down. Halved in a decade, and more beyond.

One of the largest contributors of greenhouse gas emissions is electricity generation. To address this, we need to transition to carbon free grids as soon as possible. RE100 was set up to accelerate this transition. It is a global initiative bringing together the world’s most influential businesses committed to 100% renewable power. Led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP, the group have a total revenue of over US$6.6 trillion and operate in a diverse range of sectors. Together, they send a powerful signal to policymakers and investors to accelerate the transition to a clean economy.

In this talk, Ross Mitchell from RE100 will look at the following:

  • A brief history of how we got to where we are today
  • Why do we need to make this transition?
  • What is RE100’s role in enabling and supporting that transition?
  • What do we need to achieve and by when to align with the Paris Agreement?

For more details on RE100 and its work to promote companies committing to source its power generation needs completely from renewable energy, see: www.there100.org

The webinar event took place on Tuesday 16th February 2021.
