Food:
Plant-based diets (including vegan, vegetarian and to some extent, meat reduction) are consistently reported to be better than diets high in meat (especially from cows and sheep), for both people and the planet. Understanding how people successfully transition to such diets, could help to inform public health interventions and sustainable food policy. As such, PhD researcher Katherine Jones explored the experiences of families who had transitioned to a vegan diet. Her project entitled ‘I just wish more people would look into it” – An exploratory study of familial transitions to vegan diets’ highlights the importance of social support for successful integration of a plant-based diet within the family context. It also identified the need for further research, focused on policy factors that can support the adoption of plant-based diets.
