A Webinar introducing the Lancaster Sustainability Hub, an exhibition, education, and advice space hosted by Green Rose Community Interest Company to provide the local community with information, advice, and support in living more sustainably.
Georgina Sommerville, founder, and Director of Green Rose CIC will talk about the development of the Lancaster Sustainability Hub and Green Rose’s partnership with other community organisations to turn a disused shopping-centre unit into a community resource, offering households help in staying warm and well, reducing energy bills and making their homes and lifestyles more sustainable.
Green Rose (CIC) is an award-winning social enterprise based in North Lancashire. Our mission is to help local households stay warm and well and make their homes more sustainable. We do this through a mix of advice, support, and education.
The Hub originated as a temporary Pop-Up in the winter of 2022. Open for 8 weeks in the town centre of Morecambe and Lancaster, it was conceived as a response to soaring energy bills and the cost-of-living crisis. In that that time the Pop-Up was able to help over 200 households with information, advice, and support on how to stay warmer, save energy and find appropriate help. Interactive displays about insulation, solar power, and low carbon heating, also introduced local residents to retrofit technologies that could help make their home more energy efficient, alongside advice on possible grant funding options which could make these measures a reality in people’s homes.
After the end of the original Pop-up Green Rose saw that there would be a continued demand for this kind of space and worked to make a long-term version of the pop-up, a reality.
